Sara Frankel is an American violist who recently completed both a Professional Diploma and a Master of Music (MMus) at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She holds an Advanced Music Studies Certificate and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Viola Performance, with a minor in Sonic Arts, from Carnegie Mellon University, where she graduated with University Honors. While at Carnegie Mellon, Sara studied with esteemed viola professors David Harding and Tatjana Chamis Mead. Alongside her classical training, she collaborated with internationally acclaimed electronic musicians Jesse Stiles and Annie Hui-Hsin Hseih on interdisciplinary projects that integrated music with computer programming, including performances with electronic ensembles and the creation of multimedia installations.
During her final year at Carnegie Mellon, Sara was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society and received the Tuesday Music Club Competition Scholarship. A notable highlight of her performance career includes giving the United States premiere of Sarabande, a solo work by Canadian composer David Jaeger, during his residency with the Canadian Electronic Ensemble at CMU.
Sara has performed at many of the worldβs leading concert venues, including Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Carnegie Music Hall, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and Kresge Theatre, among others.
She brings a wealth of teaching experience, having worked with students ranging in age from four to seventy-four, across a variety of instruments and disciplines including violin, viola, piano, and music theory. Deeply committed to music outreach, Sara draws from personal experience having grown up with an older brother with special needs, to create inclusive and engaging musical environments. This dedication led her to co-found Azure Family Concerts of Pittsburgh, a concert series designed for families with behavioral and sensory needs. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes a collaborative, hands-on approach tailored to each studentβs individual learning style.
Now based in the United Kingdom, Sara is eager to continue her musical journey and looks forward to building connections with fellow musicians and music enthusiasts.
